Ayumi Wins Gold Again!

At the Beijing Olympic Games today, Ayumi Tanimoto of the Komatsu Women's Judo Team won Gold Medal in the women's -63Kg category by “all ippon”. Ayumi was already a Gold medallist in the same weight category at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

We at Komatsu thank all of you who supported Ayumi in Beijing, and for the worldwide encouragements she received.

Preliminary Round 1: Seeded
Preliminary Round 2: Beat Ysis Barreto (Venezuela) by Ippon (Yokoshiho-gatame: 1'40")
Quarterfinal: Beat Ja-Young Kong (South Korea) by Ippon (Kamishiho-gatame: 2'42")
Semifinal: Beat Driulis Gonzalez (Cuba) by Ippon (Kamishiho-gatame: 3'34")
Final: Beat Lucie Decosse (France) by Ippon (Uchimata: 1'26")

After her victory, Ayumi Tanimoto said: "I am just happy! I am also very thankful for everyone who supported me while I was suffering from a back injury for some time before coming here. I am also very happy that I won all matches by Ippon, because I wanted to show the art of Ippon to children who are studying Judo."

The Komatsu Women's Judo Team was formed in April 1991, as part of Komatsu's 70th anniversary projects.
